forty touches :: 7

to celebrate turning 40, i'm posting a sketch and short writeup of a moment or a person who has touched my life in a positive way. i will post each day until i turn 40 in march.
#7 is the happy happy art collective. the happy happy art collective is denise holmes, emily balsley, jill howarth, lauren minco lowen, muffin grayson, and myself.
on the last day of 2013, i wrote to a few of my favorite artists from the make art that sells class i had taken and asked them if they wanted to form some type of collaborative. i didn't know most of them personally and i was a little bit nervous. i didn't know exactly what i had in mind for our collaborative and i didn't know what they would want out of it. they were/are more experienced artists and i wasn't sure if they would want such a newbie in the group.
they all said yes and it has been amazing! i enjoy our google hangouts where we talk about everything from kids, furniture, our latest projects, illnesses, inspiring art and other fun stuff. i love that we support each other when we suffer disappointment or frustration in our work or personal lives. i love even more that we have a built-in cheering squad when something goes our way.
we each have our strengths and experiences that we bring to the group and it makes us all better. we bounce ideas off each other and give real, honest, supportive advice. we help ease the jitters when one of us has to do a book signing or give a speech or do a contract negotiation. it's like virtual hugs!
after we formed our collective i read several articles about successful and happy artists. i was surprised at how many artists mentioned the importance of being a part of a mastermind group or having periodic meetings with other artists. it's like i knew exactly what i needed before i knew i needed it.
i am so happy happy i sent that email. we have created such a beautiful thing!
see my other #40touches posts here.
i will be publishing my 40touches posts in no particular order. i acknowledge that negative moments have also had an impact on my life, but seeing as how this is a celebration project, i won't be posting those.
also, i am choosing to only mention 40 because i'm turning 40, and therefore i can't possibly mention all the people, places or moments that have touched me in a positive way. this is just a sampling that i thought would be fun to talk about and include.
i hope this encourages you to reach out to those who have touched your life in some way.
